Discovered in a garden near Beijing in 1909, Syringa meyeri is unknown in the wild. It is a low compact shrub growing about 5 ft. with sturdy upright branches. The flowers, borne in small clusters, are pinkish lavender in color, sometimes even a whitish lavender. A hardy shrub, it often repeat blooms in late summer or very early autumn. The blooms are wonderfully fragrant. This lilac can prosper in much warmer climates than the species.
