In 1933, Francesco Illy of Trieste, Italy, first perfected the espresso-making process by combining advanced science with Italian tradition. Illy's unique blend is made from nine types of 100% sustainably-grown Arabica coffee beans from south and central America, India and Africa that are carefully roasted to ensure a smooth, balanced and consistent taste as well as an unmistakable flavor. For the first time, Illy has made available three components of its blend: three single origin beans, each alive with distinct characteristics born of region-specific soil, altitude, rainfall, sun and cultivation profiles. Sourced from the legendary yirgacheffe territory, among Arabica's earliest known origins and considered its finest, naturally shade grown under the protection of lush, nearly inaccessible forests, where collection by hand remains the only practical way.
