Soren Kierkegaard (1813–55) was a Danish philosopher and religious writer, a forerunner of 20th-Century existentialism and a key influence on modern Protestant theology. Kierkegaard's works, essentially ignored in his own lifetime, include Either/Or (1843), Fear and Trembling (1843), Philosophical Fragments (1844), and Concluding Unscientific Postscript (1846).
