Kami finds himself the youngest ever metsuke of Osaka castle, and in the service of the young Lord Toyotomi, but he soon finds that castles can imprison as easily as protect. The ninja still pursue him, and he will be able to find no peace until he has dealt with them. With enemies and intrigues surrounding his every move, Kami finds himself drawn in by a messenger from the past into the most dangerous journey of his life.

Ultimately, it is a journey that will pit him against vengeful ninja clans, scheming samurai nobles, and even those he cares most about. He must fight to protect his clan, his honour, and the lives of those he cares about, and finally determine what kind of samurai he will become.

One thing is for sure: the Shogun is taking a keen interest in Kami.
