In the midst of the treacherous Swiss Alps, two novices, a young boy and a St. Bernard pup, rigorously train to be part of a mountain rescue team. During the instruction, a potentially dangerous relationship forms between the two that could ruin both their careers. When the dog saves the young novice from the vicious attack of a bear, they become closer than ever, a working relationship that could endanger victims during rescue operations. But Barry, the St. Bernard, passes his greatest test when he leaves his fallen master to save a small girl trapped by an avalanche.
