Drain plug gaskets may seem like an unnecessary expense, but they are inexpensive and serve a very important purpose. Drain plug gaskets not only ensure that the drain plug seals properly on the oil pan, but also makes sure that the drain plug isn�t tightened so tight that it seizes, causing damage to both the drain plug and oil pan threads. They should be a part of every oil change.
