The Thunderbirds are the Air Demonstration Squadron, of the U.S. Air Force based at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. The aircraft support Air Force recruiting and retention programs. The first aircraft of Thunderbirds is selected for the new demonstration team was the straight wing F-84G Thunder jet built by Republic Aviation. Its straight wing was considered well suited for aerobatic maneuvers, and although the aircraft could not exceed the speed of sound, like some military aircraft which is very useful to meet the needs of a demonstration aircraft.
