The book is deliberately not too detailed, to make it suitable as an introduction to the subject. However, it is comprehensive, and enables the reader to know enough about the history of this fascinating land without any further reading.
Throughout the book, the major tourist sites and monuments of India are linked to historical events and personalities, helping to provide a keener perspective to famous places and tangibility to the narrative. Having read this book, the reader will find travelling through India a richer experience. The book is primarily for people outside India, especially the Indian diaspora, but it will also be a handy refresher for readers in India.
