Thirty-five years ago, I met Johnny Mercer when he was a guest
on a local television show. I was the piano player in the band,
and he very graciously asked where he might come and hear
us later. I gave him the address of a club where my trio was
playing, and later that night he and his dinner companions
came in. He and I wound up the evening sitting on the piano
bench playing "Do you remember this one... singing Mercer
tunes into the wee small hours. That evening is a favorite
memory of mine, and I'm honored to be recording some of his
wonderful music at last. Johnny Mercer was, and will continue
to be, everybody's 'Huckleberry Friend'. Thanks, John
