Pitanga is one of the tastiest and most Brazilian of fruits. It is found naturally all over Brazil and is cultivated in many backyards as well. Its berries look like cherries, hence the name 'Surinam Cherry', and can be eaten fresh from the tree. As a juice, it is considered an aphrodisiac yet it is rich in vitamins and minerals. The leaves of the Pitanga tree are very perfumed and are traditionally strewn over the ground for parades and festive days throughout Brazil. They contain a high amount of tannin and have excellent astringent and anti-mircobrial properties and are popular in teas and anti-fever baths.This gentle hand soap, extracted of Pitanga, leaves clean the hands gently.
