The story of three lives in the turbulent era of railroad building in North America. Lured by the myth of Gum San, the Gold Mountain where fortunes are made, desperate Chinese workers come by the thousands to blast through the mountains and lay tracks. Among them is a poor but feisty Chinese girl, who joins the railroad in a desperate attempt to find her long-lost father, and eventually falls in love with the son of the railroad tycoon.
