Because of its potential size, this tree is often found only in the outskirts of civilization. As an ornamental tree, the Balsam Fir fairs rather well against the competition. This specie of fir tends to hold its needles quite well after being cut. The Balsam Fir makes for an ideal Christmas Tree mainly due to its ability to remain in tact as the holiday season passes by. Its needles will not brown nor curl as quickly as the other species of evergreen. The highly pyramidal branch structure of the tree allows for ornaments and lights to be strung across it with ease.
