100 heavily rooted plants. Pachysandra terminalis, commonly referred to as Japanese Spurge, is a beautiful evergreen groundcover that thrives in partly shaded or full shade areas. Pachysandra spreads rapidly by underground stems to form a dense carpet of rich, dark green foliage. Pachysandra is the only satisfactory plant that will grow as a ground cover under Pine Trees. This plant is used extensively under shallow rooted trees, back of buildings or in other areas that are too shady for grass to grow. It is also attractive as a border plant along paths or driveway edgings. Common Name: Japanese Spurge Hardiness Zone: 5 to 9 Height: 6 to 12 inches Spread: 1 to 1.5 feet Bloom Time: April Bloom Color: White Sun: Part shade to full shade Maintenance: Low Flowers: Small, white flowers 1-2" long Leaves: Evergreen Uses: Groundcover, erosion control, border plant. For most groundcovers, we recommend you plant 6" to 9" spacing. This will allow the plants to grow together quickly, reducing the need for hand weeding. To determine how many plants you will need, using 6" spacing, multiply the number of square footage that you need to plant by 4.0. If you would like your plants to be spaced 9" apart, multiply the number of square footage by 1.8. Example: If you have a 100 square foot area to plant and you would like your plants to be planted 6" apart, you will need to calculate 100 x 4.0 = 400. 400 is the approximate number of plants needed.
