A plug spawn is a mycelium infused wooden cylinder designed to be inserted into a drilled hole in a log or stump and sealed over with wax. The plugs will inoculate the wood and it will produce mushrooms starting in about nine months. The wood should continue to produce for years to come once properly inoculated.

Reishi mushrooms are edible mushrooms but are more highly prized for their medicinal rather than their culinary properties. They can be grilled (soak overnight to soften) or used in a variety of soups, they are most popular stewed into a tea for their reported immune system benefits.
