The California Wonder pepper plant has been the standard bell pepper for many decades, being first introduced in 1928. It is the largest open-pollinated, bell pepper you can grow, a 4 inch tall, thick-walled and blocky bell, with a crisp, mild flavor and terrific sweetness. This definitely is one of the best tasting sweet bell peppers. The California Wonder pepper plant is a heavy-bearing, disease-resistant, vigorous plant that will bring you a summer full of delicious eating! Plus it is so versatile, you can eat it fresh sliced or chopped, in salads and salsas, stuffed, roasted, grilled, cooked into sauces and casseroles and other dishes, its uses are endless. They are terrific green fresh off the plant, or let them fully mature to its bright red color for the ultimate in sweetness in a pepper. This variety is great for colder climates where other peppers will not perform. Place plants in a sunny location 18-24 inches apart. They require a nutrient rich loamy (sandy) well-draining soil, with adequate watering; one inch per week is good. Organic materials, such as shredded leaves, grass clippings, and well- rotted decompose manure are a good source to enrich your soil. Plants will reach 24-30 inches tall and you can expect to start harvesting 75-80 days from seeding. Regular harvesting aids in continual fruit production. This is a great producing bell pepper.
