In Japan, purple owls are talismans for always surrounding one's self with people of positive character. While there is only one grammatically correct way to write fukuro (owl) in Japanese, the word is often written with kanji characters which are homonyms for "luck" or "bringing luck". For this reason, in Japan owls have long been seen as a harbinger of good luck and more recently, as in western culture, symbols of wisdom. This covered mug features a mother and baby owl with gold accents and on the mug the Japanese word for owl are written both in English and in kanji.
