Phenylethylamine (PEA) is a naturally occurring monoamine alkaloid that is biosynthesized from the amino acid, L-phenylalanine by enzymatic decarboxylation. This phenylethylamine supplement is combined with hydrochloride to form a stable salt analog. PEA is a compound found in small amounts in chocolate. However, phenylethylamine derived from dietary sources is metabolized quickly by monoamine oxidase enzymes (MAOIs). Warning: Do not take phenylethylamine as a dietary supplement while taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). *NOTE: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
