SPECIAL NOTE: THESE HAVE TO BE PUT IN THE FREEZER FOR TWO WEEKS BEFORE PLANTING. Spicy Oriental favorite. Distinct cinnamon/clove flavor and aroma, with the spiciness of cumin. Used in oriental cooking, sushi and salad mix. Red Shiso colors radish pickles and "umeboshi" plums. Shiso is a member of the mint family, and has been used in Asian remedies for centuries. It is traditionally used as a natural remedy in China, Japan, India and Vietnam. Eye-catching green leaves with red undersides. Good micro or salad mix item, or use larger leaves as sushi wraps and plate garnishes. Larger leaf and plant than our Red and Green Shisos. Mild mint/basil aroma. Good container for ornamental use. Leaves show best color contrast when grown in temperatures below 85°. Special Note 3-22-2015: Looking at reviews I noticed a lot of people were having trouble growing this plant. So I took a pack off the shelf and planted about half of it and waited for several weeks and sure enough, nothing happened. So I went back and this time I read the instructions for planting. This seed needs to be kept in the freezer one week before planting. So I put the rest of the pack in the freezer for a week, removed it one day before planting and now I have all sorts of plants. So it must be frozen for a week. An individual has left a review stating this is a dangerous seed. The individual has his varieties confused. The weeded variety growing wild can be dangerous to animals, but this is not conclusive. However we do not sell the weeded variety. Our variety is grow in a controlled environment, under stringent guidelines. But do not take my word for it. Do your own study and you will see what I am talking about.
