Selecting the Right Anchor Line

One of the most popular rules of thumb when selecting an anchor line size is to have 1/8" of anchor line diameter for every 9' of boat. In other words, 3/8" anchor line would be suitable for most boats up to 27'. Appropriate sizing may vary depending on boat type, anchoring conditions, and other factors.

Sizing Table and Breaking Strengths:
3/8" diameter rope: 4000 lbs; for boats up to 27'
1/2" diameter rope: 5200 lbs; for boats up to 36'
5/8" diameter rope: 9000 lbs; for boats up to 45'
3/4" diameter rope: 11200 lbs; for boats up to 54'
