After Holmes moved from New Hampshire to Chicago in the late 1800s, he designed a home with secret torture chambers, rented rooms to unsuspecting tourists who were in town for Chicago's 1893 World's Fair, then tortured them. The film covers Holmes's early years, his murderous spree and his trial.
