With its bright orange flowers and commanding height, Chinese Giant Orange Amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus) is a stunning addition to your garden. It is also an excellent food source: the greens, cooked and eaten like spinach, are delicious and very high in important vitamins and minerals; the seed is a popular grain that makes a tasty porridge or gruel. This variety is huge - plants up to 8' tall, and reported yields of up to a pound of seed per plant! Tolerant of poor soils, but will yield much greater in a well-tended garden with rich soil. 100 days to seed. Annual.
