Purple Top White Globe has been growing in American gardens since the early 19th century; this variety established itself as one of the most popular turnips for both home and commercial growing. The 1881 D. M. Ferry seed catalog says that turnip is "of beautiful appearance, of most excellent quality, and equally desirable for table or stock."
