Valery Gergiev directs this production of Sergei Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Russian lyric soprano Galina Gorchakova and Russian baritone Sergei Leiferkus inspire with brilliant performances in the two leading roles. Stage director David Freeman's sensational production has completely entered into this opera's strangely unnerving world. The opera itself is derived from a novel by the Russian decadent Valery Bryusov.
