Some of our first settlers enjoyed brewing their own "hard" and "soft" beers. Farmers created countless recipes using various combinations of sarsaparilla, vanilla, cherry bark, licorice, clove and many other ingredients. In 1876, as America celebrated its 100th birthday at the Philadelphia centennial exposition, root beer was first introduced commercially (in jugs), and bottled soon after. During prohibition, root beer was one of the most popular beverages in the country. Our spirit of '76 is a nod to this much beloved drink.
