An acting troupe rehearses for ?Role Playing,? a play by Luigi Pirandello. During rehearsal six mysterious family members show up on stage claiming to be characters from a play whose writer refused to complete. They persuade the director to stage their story by suggesting theirs is a story that might finally provide the jaded director a hit. The nature of theater, the relativity of truth and the kaleidoscope of identity spring forth as dialectical issues in the telling of the characters? lurid melodrama, whose narrative foreshadows a tragic end.
