Actinidia arguta ( hardy kiwi ) is a perennial vine native to Korea , Northern China , and Russian Siberia , producing a small fruit resembling the kiwifruit .
* Actinidia arguta ( hardy kiwi ) is a perennial vine native to Korea , Northern China , and Russian Siberia , producing a small fruit resembling the kiwifruit.
* This is a climbing plant, supporting itself by twining around branches etc.
* A very hardy plant, tolerating temperatures down to -30°c or more, but the young spring growth is susceptible to frost damage.
* The fruit can be eaten raw, cooked or dried for later use. Sweeter than A. deliciosa, the kiwi fruit, the skin is smooth and can be eaten with the fruit.
* The fruit contains up to 5 times the vitamin C content of blackcurrants.
Growing Info:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours.
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days.
Germination: sow seed 1/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed.
Other: fall sowing in mulched beds is prefered to artificial stratification.
