Product Review
Myrciaria dubia, commonly known as camu camu is a small bushy riverside tree from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil and Peru, which bears a red/purple cherry-like fruit. The extraordinarily high vitamin C content is the most important property of the fruit. Processed powder from the fruit pulp is now beginning to be sold in the west as a health food in powder or capsule form. In addition to the high vitamin C content, camu camu contains iron, riboflavin, potassium, the amino acids valine, leucine, and serine. It is also rich in flavonoids, such as anthocyanins, flavonols and flavanols, catechins, delphinidin 3-glucoside, cyanidin 3-glucoside, ellagic acid, and rutin; other analysis revealed the presence of gallic and ellagic acids, suggesting that the fruit possesses hydrolyzed tannins (gallo- and/or ellagitannins). It's wide range of amino acids and minerals also greatly help in the absorption of the vitamin C.
