In China, Japanese Cranes are also called Emperor Cranes. In the Chinese myths, cranes lead extraordinarily long lives and Emperor Cranes are especially magical in this regard. Throughout Chinese history, cranes have been symbolic of longevity and great esteem. In Chinese legends, cranes are nearly immortal and bear the souls of the departed to heaven. In art and literature, immortals are often depicted travelling on cranes.

Since ancient times in China, the crane has been regarded as an auspicious bird, next only to the legendary phoenix among all the birds with a divine poise. Because a crane was considered the top-ranking bird, it was used as Imperial China's highest demarcation of court status. A crane image on the rank badge on a robe was only for extremely important officials. A crane badge was symbolic of incorruptibility and longevity in one's position.

In Chinese symbology, the number six represents calm and patience. Six is a homophone for "To drop" or "To let go". Spiritually, six is about letting go of earthly worries and tapping into heavenly energy.
