Julie First is no man’s patsy. When her boyfriend offers marriage on the condition that she dedicate herself to him and his banking career, she’s out the door without a backward glance. She has her own career with the school district to devote her energies to. What she isn’t prepared for was a loyalty oath as part of her contract.

She has no intention of criticizing the school administration . . . until she uncovers what appears to be corruption. There’s only one person she feels comfortable approaching with her concerns, the school board’s new member, Rolf Murdock. Divorced from a woman who left him and the kids to pursue her own business ambitions, he’s skeptical of Julie’s suspicions but promises to investigate. It doesn’t take long, however, before they’re both uncomfortable with what they find, and there’s nothing academic about it.
