The E-3 AWACS is easily the most recognizable aircraft in operation today with the unique "random" and fuselages that house advanced radar and electronic sensors. The E-8 features enhanced communications and command and control functions similar to but more limited in scope when compared to the E-3 AWACS. Based on the Boeing 707 airframe, the E-3 AWACS and E-8 Joint Star provide theatre command and control of US and Allied military forces worldwide.
