The 100% Jute fiber burlap sacks do have a distinct scent which is part of their characteristic. This scent of course would dissipate over time when the sacks are aired out. Although some people think the odor is similar to thinner, the scent originates from the natural fibers and is an air purifier, and germ killer. This is in fact one of the reasons this sack is widely used in storage of food and produce.
