An encounter with the preacher’s son, Jacob, brings the father, Pastor Nash Bernhardt, who is incensed to find his offspring seeking the services of a “fallen frail”. The recently widowed preacher has struggled to raise a wayward son and manage a congregation in the wild, western town of Misbegotten, Arizona.

Nash knows who Sally is, having greatly esteemed her late husband, Sheriff Brook. After finding Jacob in her arms, he’s seeing red, but there are other considerations that work to distract him—mainly the attraction he feels for the lusty redhead, and a desire to make her his.
