Sumac powder comes from sun-dried berries of a wild shrub that grows in southern Italy. A common ingredient in Arabic spice blend za'atar, sumac has a lemony flavor and is great for seasoning meats, stews and sauces. For seasoning, use 1 teaspoon sumac per 1 pound of meat. May contain traces of salt.
