From 2005-11 the Dresden State Operetta Orchestra under Ernst Theis recorded a body of works known as the Rundfunkmusiken (Radio Suites). German radio networks commissioned these compositions from the best-known contemporary composers with the goal of developing works adapted to the technical resources of the new mass medium. The Rundfunkmusiken are like an interface between popular music and the many different trends in classical music during the Weimar Republic.
