The shaft of each shelf peg is 1/4" in diameter and is 3/8" in length, giving you plenty enough "bite" to support most loads. The "spoon" part that actually projects into the cabinet is an unobtrusive 3/8" wide x 1/2" deep. Again... perfectly up to the task of handling any normal load.
