When Gina Kell loses her husband on Christmas day, she soon finds a kindred spirit in another parent at her kids' school, Michael Spehn who loses his wife at the same time. As they help each other and their children though grief, they grow closer and fall in love. However, family and friends cause them to question whether being together is a good idea. They are forced to ask themselves if their new found love is strong enough to overcome the grief surrounding both families or if it is simply too soon for either of them to think about moving on.
