TROPICA® - Tamarillo (Cyphomandra betacea) - 100 Seeds
Worth knowing: The Tamarillo is a fast-growing plant (up to a height of 2m) and has large, heart-shaped leaves. Within our latitudes, flowers appear after the third year of growth. For a dense, bush-like growth it should be pruned extensively during winter as it is a quite rapidly growing plant; otherwise it will grow somewhat gawky.
Origin: Indigenous to the South American Andes.
Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. The sowing should be carried out in a very warm place (20° to 25°C). Sow the seeds on well moistened seed starting soil and cover them just thinly with earth. Keep the cultivation substratum moist but not wet. High humidity will let the seeds germinate in as little as 14 to 20 days.
Place / Light: The plant loves bright locations but can as well be placed in a spot outside, where it is sheltered from wind.
Care: Use nutrient-rich standard soil as planting medium. Always keep the soil slightly moist. Supply the Tamarillo with tub plant fertilizer in intervals of 14 days from April until September. You may well prune the plant often, so that it doesn't grow long stalks.
Winter period: Water very little during winter. Just make sure that the soil doesn't dry out. A bright spot in a green house, a winter garden or a room, with temperatures between 10° and 16°C, is ideal. The plant can be repotted after the second spring. It doesn't have high demands to ground.
Bonsai Suitability: No
