Why does my dog need Essential Fatty Acids?

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) are a type of polyunsaturated fat that your dog needs. Two particular types of fatty acids, linolenic and linoleic acid, are incapable of being made by the body and have to be delivered from either food or supplement form.
Linoleic acid provides dogs with a source of Omega-6 Fatty Acids. Omega-6's come from linoleic acid and comes from eating grains, seeds, nuts, leafy greens and vegetable oils. Safflower oil has some of the highest concentrations of linoleic acid and Omega-6 Fatty Acids.
Linolenic acid provides Omega-3 Fatty Acids and can be acquired by consuming certain nuts and seeds along with their oils such as flax, walnuts, soy, fish and krill.
