The San Francisco-based Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Nicholas McGegan present three symphonies from the prolific, middle period (1770s) of Franz Joseph Haydn: Nos. 57, 67 & 68. These inventive works are the fruits of a time during which Haydn eagerly explored the possibilities of symphonic form and expression. This release follows on from their 2011 Grammy®-nominated recording featuring three late-period Haydn symphonies: Nos. 104, 88 & 101. The Los Angeles Times has proclaimed, Haydn and McGegan were made for each other. Under Nicholas McGegan, whose music directorship tenure of the orchestra reaches back to 1985, Philharmonia Baroque has been named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America.
