Directed by Gil Noble, this 1977 documentary focuses on singer, actor and civil rights activist Paul Robeson. Shot shortly before Robeson’s death in 1976, the film includes rare archival footage, interviews and still photography from throughout the twentieth century. The title is taken from a 1940s statement made by civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune describing Robeson.
