More people have chosen to end their lives at the Golden Gate Bridge than anywhere else in the world.
For THE BRIDGE, director Eric Steel and his crew shot for every day of 2004, from dawn until dusk, capturing most of the 24 suicides that year and many of the unrealized attempts and helped to save several lives. They filmed hours of heart-wrenching interviews with the families and friends of these suicides, with witnesses who were walking or driving across the bridge, and with several of the attempters themselves.
THE BRIDGE provides a visual and visceral journey into one of life's gravest taboos, offering glimpses into the most impenetrable corners of the human mind. The fates of these 24 people are linked together at the bridge and by a 4 second fall, but their lives seem to have been moving on parallel arcs all along.
