Yerba mate is an important part of South American social culture. It boasts a wide range of health benefits from being an energy boost, to being full of vitamins, to aiding weight loss, and having antioxidant properties. Traditionally it is sipped from a gourd - a hollowed out, dried fruit casing using a bombilla - a metal straw with a closed end to filter out the tea leaves.
