Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is an extremely valuable and easy-to-grow medicinal plant. Marshmallow is demulcent - it soothes irritated mucus membranes in the digestive tract and lungs, and gives relief to sore throat. It is also mildly stimulating to the immune system. The leaves and flowers are used similarly, but are considered to be less medicinally potent.
