Roger Allam – “this most versatile and humane of actors…in fine form here” – delivers a magnificent performance as Prospero in this production captured in High Definition and surround sound at the faithful reconstruction of the original Globe Theatre on the banks of the Thames (which has been called “a theatrical heaven” by the Sunday Express). Probably the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone, The Tempest is set on a remote island where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using skillful manipulation and a conjured-up storm. This delightful production “memorably captures the humor, the enchantment and the tantalizing sense of mystery of Shakespeare’s last masterpiece.” (The Telegraph).
