Jess is doing what he always does, hunting down the worst of killers when he runs into a young boy, Jamie Williett. Jess finds out that the man he is hunting killed Jamie’s father. Jamie gets shot while attempting to kill the man and Jess is there when it happens.

Feeling somewhat responsible for Jamie getting hurt, Jess hangs around to make sure he doesn’t attempt to go after the killer again, but Jamie takes off after him on his own without telling Jess.

When Jess finds out what Jamie is up to, he tracks him down and stays with him to keep him from taking another bullet from the killer. A long journey ensues and the two of them face many obstacles along the way. Jess has his hands full, keeping Jamie safe, while trying to get him to his mother in one piece.
