Heidi Williams-Lawless is a young woman raising a young daughter alone. Married in name only to a husband who refuses to grant her a divorce, she is desperate for her freedom so she can get on with her life. Her brother, Dennis, has his own reasons for wanting closure for his sister.

Dennis reaches out to Heidi’s husband’s twin brother—a decorated military man who is currently deciding whether to leave the service or re-enlist. Ethan Lawless pays a visit to his sister-in-law and niece, neither of whom he’d known existed. Ethan is decent and kind—a polar opposite to his volatile brother.

For the first time in a long while, Heidi has reason to feel hopeful about her future. Or, does she?
