>>>The M14 was called the Garand perfected. It had all the major "wish list" items on it that every soldier wanted for their Garand.<<<
The M14 never lived up to the glory and praise the Garand received though. It had the shortest reign as the standard battlefield weapon of the United States of any weapon we ever produced. It also was made in lesser number than any other standard infantry weapon we ever made.It never won a major conflict, and was the last wood and steel weapon we made for the Armed Forces. The author tells some great history about this weapon, it's place in U.S. weapons history, and it's use.
>>> Learn why it did not live up to it's hype, and replace four weapons at once. <<<
Learn why it could not be made more cheaply than a Garand. Why it couldn't be made on Garand tooling, and why it didn't work so well in the jungles of Vietnam.
>>> Learn how to field strip the gun, clean it, inspect the bolt, and spot incipient problems.<<<
Finally, learn how the M14 can be a dual enjoyment weapon. It can be good for shooting, and yet still be kept as a C&R collectors item.
>>> About the Author...<<<
Mike Francis sporterized his first military weapon way back in the sixties as a fourteen year old boy. He is an avid gun collector and marvels at the inventors and genius of the past. These days there is a product and hack for every gun owner's complaint or problem gun. The craft is much easier. Just about everyone can do minor gunsmith work with the new products and tools on the market today. Once you get into the study and conversion of the old military bolt and semiautomatic weapons you will be fascinated in particular by the M14. It is the the weapon that became all it could be, yet was held in disfavor by many. The legacy of the weapon will improve most likely over time.
