Do you want a unique way to spice up your garden or nursery? These seeds are the perfect gift for yourself or anyone interested in horticulture. Venus flytraps are eye catching and can be an interesting conversation starter. In order to prepare your seeds, be sure to soak them in pure water (NO tap water, city water, well water, etc - it will harm the plant!) until most of the seeds sink when you stir them. The seeds do not need to be stratified, meaning to simulate a winter condition which helps fall-blooming plants germinate. Venus Flytraps bloom in the Spring and produce and germinate their seeds in the summer. Within 2 weeks of planting, your seedling should sow, and within 25 days the first seeds should germinate. Be patient with your seeds; they will grow. Seeds from a pouch take several weeks longer to germinate than fresh seeds. It takes a venus flytrap plant 2-4 years to grow from a seed to a mature plant. It is important to remember to keep your growing plant moist with natural rain or distilled water and out of the way of direct sunlight. Use a mix based of sphagnum peat moss, silica sand or perlite for the best growing results. Also, remember not to bury your seeds as you typically would other seeds. Rather, use the moss and crumble it between your fingers, going around the seed, but not pressing down. Planting this way will help keep your seed damp longer. Remember, even though they are carnivorous plants, they do not eat hamburger or other human foods. They consume small insects that will trigger the Venus Flytraps tiny stiff hairs enough to bend them. Within a second of the hairs being triggered the trap will close trapping the bugs inside.
