The M9 seems to have suffered the same fate the M14 did. That weapon also tried to replace an icon. The M9 is a great weapon that puts 15 rounds in your magazine at the same weight as a seven round 1911 does. It has accuracy, and reliability. It is light. It balances in your hand nicely. But does it have enough wallop to inspire soldier's confidence?

Working against the Beretta M9 is the fact that the weapon is replacing the 1911 in a 9mm caliber. Despite being the most successful cartridge in the world, the 9mm has it's detractors.

The M9 does everything well, but nothing memorable. It is simply not a "love at first caress weapon"!
