Twenty-two year old Katie feels like her life is ruined €“ she's facing an arranged marriage to Thomas Trumbauer. All Katie knows is that he's stern, distant, and well-to-do with his horse training business.

When Katie and Thomas meet, it certainly doesn't go well. While Katie has her concerns about Thomas, Thomas is just as concerned about marrying Katie-she seems to be a little wild-spirited and a bit on the unruly side. They both question their parents' judgment.

As they spend more time together before the marriage however, Katie begins to look forward to the regular visits and Thomas allows Katie to help him out with the horse training. But during training one day, an accident leaves Thomas injured - with a strong possibility that he€ll never walk again with it. Katie€s parents, recognizing that Thomas will likely move back in with his family and never support a family of his own, retract the arranged marriage.

Although a part of her is relieved that she's free from the arranged marriage, Katie had become convinced that she does love Thomas. But does it matter now that Thomas can no longer support himself, let alone a family?
